Mathematics Competitions
Every year the Hellenic Mathematical Society organises the Pan-Hellenic Competitions in Mathematics under the titles “Thales”, “Euclid” and “Archimedes” following qualifying rounds of competition. Members of the National Team are selected among the winners and represent Greece in the Regional and International Mathematics Olympiad.
Costeas-Geitonas Students are especially mathematically inclined with a long history in competing and, indeed, in winning. The competitions are targeted to Grades 8, 9 and Lyceum students.
The benefits of participating in such competitions are many. Students focus on a subject they love and deepen their knowledge and understanding of mathematics along with their fellow students with whom they share a common interest (there are approximately 15,000 student participants from across Greece in the first phase of the competition). They also gain experience in participating in a competition where they are externally evaluated.
Aiming at the best possible preparation, the school provides training classes for potential participants from the primary level (Grades 5-6), the Gymnasium level (Grades 8-9) and the Lyceum level (Grades 10-11).
