The Island of Spetses
The Island of Spetses has historically been celebrated for its wealth and glory; achievements not usually linked to small places. The southern-most island in the Saronic Gulf, Spetses is easily accessible by ferry or hydrofoil from Athens making it a popular destination for visitors. A small community, with a population of fewer than 4,000, Spetses has a culture with a long naval tradition and fascinating history. Its sandy beaches, secluded bays and pine forests are combined with the true architectural beauty of its villages with stone walkways, neoclassical houses and courtyards.
The School
The school's location makes it an ideal setting in which to study - olive and pine trees cover the campus and is no more than 50 meters from the beachfront and approximately 1.2 kilometres from the main town of Spetses. The facilities include accommodation (double or triple occupancy), 12 classrooms, lecture hall, internet access, dining hall and coffee shop. Students also have access to the soccer field, basketball court and various sports activities organised on the beachfront by the school. School grounds are protected by a security service, 24 hours a day. School boundaries are continuously checked and monitored while the main entrance is guarded by security personnel.
The Campus
The summer campus is located on the famous Anargyrios- Korgialenios School which was established in 1927. The School's benefactors, Sotirios Anargyros and Marinos Korgialenios were dedicated to "preparing future Greek leaders" and modelled the school on Eton College and the Harrow School. The complex includes five buildings, extensive sports facilities, amphitheatre, the Poseidonion Hotel and the Anargyros residence - all superb examples of turn-of-the-century classical architecture. More than 56 years after its establishment, the school closed its doors having produced world renowned artists, scientists and academics. Today, the school plays an important role as the site of international conferences, symposia and other important academic and cultural events every year.
